(NL) Greylight Projects introduceert met veel enthousiasme de artiesten gekozen voor de herfst residenties van 2023: Zhixin Angus Liao, Salomé Ingelbrecht en Krista Jantowski. We hebben veel aanmeldingen mogen ontvangen, allen met interessante benaderingswijzen ten opzichte van de open call. Alle drie de artiesten zullen werkzaam zijn op locatie bij Greylight Projects te Heerlen, Nederland in de periode van September tot November 2023. In deze opkomende drie maanden zullen de residenten hun nieuwe omgeving gaan ontdekken en zich focussen op hun artistieke praktijk.
De kunstenaars worden uitgenodigd om deel te nemen aan het programma van Borderland Residencies. Borderland Residencies is een netwerk van kunstresidenties in de hele EuRegio, waarin de kunstenaars deelnemen aan uitwisselingen, bijeenkomsten en excursies met samenwerkende kunstenaars in residentie. Over de kunstenaars:
Zhixin Angus Liao gebruikt multidisciplinaire praktijken om de aandacht te vestigen op onnauwkeurigheden tussen individuele ervaringen en situaties, concepten en materiaal. Liao richt zich op het interval tussen perceptie en locatie specifieke contexten. Deze zijn gebaseerd op veldstudies waarin misverstanden en onduidelijkheid onbedoeld maar onvermijdelijk zijn. Momenteel is Liao gefascineerd door zijn status als migrant in Europa, met gevoelens van ontheemding als gevolg. Hij gebruikt deze fascinatie als basis voor zijn huidige artistieke praktijk.
Salomé Ingelbrecht omschrijft zichzelf als een ‘visuele dichter’ die zich richt op het verzamelen, assembleren en verzamelen van objecten, woorden en restjes die ze tijdens excursies tegenkomt. Ingelbrecht bevraagt en amuseert zich met het potentieel hiervan. Door gebruik te maken van sculpturen/installaties, drukprocessen en publicaties verweeft ze haar schrijven met haar visuele praktijk.

Krista Jantowski is een curator en organisator die werkt rond verschillende noties van publiceren. Ze komt bij Greylight Projects voor een residentie gericht op onderzoek naar de politiek en poëtica van de geschiedenissen van de steenkoolmijnbouw in de regio. Het onderzoek richt zich voornamelijk op het vertellen van verhalen als een plek van macht: hoe (en door wie) geschiedenissen worden ontworpen, waarbij de verschillende dynamische processen van betekenisgeving worden erkend, verhalen voortdurend worden (door)verteld, gevormd en (opnieuw) georganiseerd om bepaalde verhalen te passen en vast te leggen, terwijl andere worden verdoezeld.
Ze zal een semi-publieke leesruimte ontwikkelen bij Greylight Projects, waar een verzameling onderzoek in verschillende vormen wordt gepresenteerd, om een collectief gesprek op gang te brengen over herinneringen, erfgoed en het maken van geschiedenis in relatie tot het lokale mijnverleden. In de leeszaal, die verder kijkt dan het gedrukte model, zullen verschillende bijeenkomsten plaatsvinden, zoals hangouts, leesgroepen en andere lezingen, met als doel ruimte te creëren voor het samenkomen van een veelheid aan geschiedenissen en vormen van gedecanoniseerd lezen.

(EN) Greylight Projects is pleased to announce the artists chosen for the 2023 autumn residencies: Zhixin Angus Liao, Salomé Ingelbrecht, and Krista Jantowski by the selection committee. We received many applications, all with interesting approaches to the open call. All three artists will work at Greylight Projects in Heerlen, the Netherlands in the period of September to November 2023. In these coming three months, the artists will be exploring their new surroundings and focus on their artistic practices.
The artist are invited to take part in the program of Borderland Residencies. Borderland Residencies is a network of art residencies across the EuRegion, through which the artists will join in on exchanges, gatherings, and field trips with collaborating artists in residence. About the artists:
Zhixin Angus Liao uses multidisciplinary practices as a way to draw attention to inaccuracies between individual experiences and situations, concepts, and material. Liao focuses on the interval separating perception from site-specific contexts. These are based on field studies in which misunderstanding and obscurity are unintentional but inevitable. Currently, Liao is fascinated by his status as a migrant in Europe, which has feelings of displacement as a consequence. He taps into this fascination as a foundation for his current artistic practice.
Salomé Ingelbrecht describes herself as a ‘visual poet’ who focuses on gathering, assembling and collecting objects, words and scraps found on excursions. Ingelbrecht questions and amuses herself with the potential of these. Through using sculpture/installation, printing processes and publishing, she interweaves writing and her visual practice.

Krista Jantowski is a curator and organizer working around different notions of publishing. She is joining Greylight Projects for a research residency on the politics and poetics of the histories of coal mining in the region. The research is primarily concerned with storytelling as a site of power: how (and by whom) histories are designed, acknowledging the different dynamic processes of making meaning, where stories are continuously being (re)told, shaped and (re)organized to fit and fix certain narratives, while obscuring others.
She will develop a semi-public reading room at Greylight Projects, which presents a collection of research in different forms, opening a collective conversation on memories, heritage and history-making in relation to the local mining past. Thinking about research beyond the printed model, the reading room will host different gatherings such as hangouts, reading groups, and other talks, aiming to create space for a coming together of a multiplicity of histories and instances of decanonized reading.
