Met genoegen kondigt Greylight Projects aan dat de kunstenaars Ben Weir en Kenneth Moreno-Kiernan zijn geselecteerd door de selectiecommissie bestaande uit Mona Steinhaeusser (kunstenaar, alumni Borderland Residencies), Joep Vossebeld (directeur Odapark, Venray) en Roy Voragen (Greylight Projects) voor de Autumn Residencies. We ontvingen ongeveer 50 aanmeldingen, allemaal met een interessante en verschillende benadering van de vragen die in de open call aan de orde kwamen. Zij zullen vanaf begin september tot eind november 2022 in de gastateliers in Heerlen wonen en werken. Het residentieprogramma is onderdeel van de Borderland Residencies (https://borderland-residencies.eu/).
Ben Weir:
Ben Weir wil zijn project rond het werk van Fritz Peutz voort zetten. In 2019 maakte Weir een toevoeging aan een gebouw van Heerlen’s ‘local hero’ architect Frits Peutz: een sculpturale open haard binnen de van Eyck Academie in Maastricht. Hier bestudeerde Weir het werk van Peutz om een reactie op zijn werk te kunnen geven. Weir keert terug naar Peutz en Heerlen, een stad waar de architect een diepgaande invloed had in de 20ste eeuw, en om zijn residentie project bij Greylight Projects door zijn lens mee de stad in te nemen. Kenneth Moreno Kierman:
Kenneth Moreno Kierman vraagt hoe onderzoek het publiek bereikt en betrekt? Hoe kan onderzoek gebruik maken van nieuwe media en technologieën? Moet onderzoek per se uitmonden in een boek of essay of zijn er ook andere middelen? Kenneth vraagt zich af of de locatie van Greylight Projects, vlakbij de Brunssummerheide, ook interessant zou zijn voor zijn werk, dat heel vaak geïnspireerd is op elementen uit de landelijke omgeving. Hij wil graag zijn onderzoek voortzetten en zich richten op water en fonteinen als onderwerp. Greylight Projects is pleased to announce that artists Ben Weir and Kenneth Moreno-Kiernan are selected by the selection committee consisting of Mona Steinhaeusser (artist, alumni Borderland Residencies), Joep Vossebeld (director Odapark, Venray) and Roy Voragen (Greylight Projects) for the Autumn Residencies. We received around 50 applications, all with an interesting and different approach to the questions raised by the open call. They will be living in working in the guest studios in Heerlen from September till the end of November 2022. The residency program is part of the Borderland Residencies (https://borderland-residencies.eu/).
Ben Weir:
Ben Weir will continue his project around the work of Fritz Peutz. In 2019 Weir made an addition to a building by Heerlen’s ‘local hero’ architect Frits Peutz, a sculptural fireplace within the van Eyck Academie in Maastricht. Here Weir studied the work of Peutz in order to make an informed response to his work. There is something powerful and alluring about returning to this (unfinished) research, coming back to Peutz and Heerlen, where he had a profound impact in the 20th century, taking this residency project at Greylight Projects out into the city through the architect´s lens. Kenneth Moreno-Kiernan:
Kenneth Moreno Kierman asks how does research engage and involve the public? How can research use new media and technologies? Does research necessarily end up as a book or paper or are there other means? Kenneth wonders if the location of Greylight Projects, near the Brunssummerheide, would also be interesting for his work, which is very often inspired by elements in the rural environment. He likes to continue his research and focus on water and fountains as subjects.
