Gabriela Areal is a musician from Buenos Aires. She is a cellist and composer who sometimes sings. Originally coming from visual/movement arts, her music practice wonders about the space within and between people. She has played in several experimental and contemporary ensembles in Argentina; has toured through Europe, Brazil and Argentina, and her music has been played in several cities in the US. She currently organises sagital; a house concert series around experimental and early music. Under sagital editions she releases text scores in a zine format.

LCollective is a group of composers/musicians based in New York and New Jersey. Its members come from different countries and musical/artistic backgrounds and share a commitment to programming and performing music that is rarely heard in established music venues. They embrace musical situations that are open, inclusive and permeable, and emphasize bringing together creative individuals from all backgrounds and stages of development to make music together in a collaborative environment.

LCollective seeks to programme works that speak in the voice of the outsider, a hushed voice that does not try to draw attention to itself, that stresses generosity, intimacy, attentiveness and spirit.

Recent and upcoming projects of the ensemble include a US East Coast tour, the launch of the record label Love Records, evenings featuring experimental films with live music, performances at DogStar Orchestra festival in Los Angeles and Klangraum in Düsseldorf. LCollective’s members participating in this concert are Assaf Gidron, Douglas Farrand and Teodora Stepančić.

Germaine Sijstermans (Heerlen) is a clarinettist and composer. In her work influences of i.a. nature, indeterminate/silent music and butoh dance can be found. The spatial aspects in her compositions are an essential element of her works from the very first developments on, both in the music itself as well as in the use of the performance space.

Since 2014 Sijstermans has been putting on concerts in Intro, production house for experimental music in Maastricht, where she is currently an artist in residence (with support of Via Zuid). In the end of this year she will finalise her residency with a tour in the Netherlands and album recordings.

Germaine Sijstermans has performed on many stages, ranging from traditional concert halls to underground venues, in the Netherlands and abroad, from Berlin to São Paulo and New York.

Vier musici van het in New York gebaseerd LCollective (Assaf Gidron, Douglas Farrand, Evelyn Emile en Teodora Stepančić), componiste/celliste Gabriela Areal uit Buenos Aires en klarinettiste/componiste Germaine Sijstermans uit Heerlen brengen gezamenlijk dit concert ten gehore. Middels akoestische en elektronische klanken spelen de musici elkaars werken, die de ruimte in en tussen mensen, en de bescheiden, intieme en aandachtige stem van de buitenstaander onderzoeken. 

Gabriela Areal is een musicus uit Buenos Aires. Ze is celliste, componiste en bij gelegenheid zangeres. Met een achtergrond in beeldende kunst en beweging, onderzoekt haar muziek de ruimte in en tussen mensen. Ze heeft deel uitgemaakt van meerdere experimentele muziekensembles in Argentinië en heeft hiermee getourd in Europa, Brazilië, Argentinië en de VS.

In Buenos Aires organiseert ze sagital; een serie van huisconcerten rondom experimentele en oude muziek. Onder sagital editions publiceert ze text scores in de vorm van een zine.

LCollective is een groep componisten/musici gebaseerd in New York en New Jersey. De leden hebben hun achtergrond in verschillende landen en muzikale/artistieke disciplines. Ze delen een toewijding voor het programmeren en uitvoeren van muziek die zelden te horen is op gevestigde podia. De groep richt zich open en toegankelijke muzikale situaties waarbij individuen van verschillende achtergronden en ontwikkelingsstadia middels creatieve samenwerking musiceren.

LCollective programmeert werken waarin de stem van de buitenstaander klinkt; een gedempte stem die niet de aandacht naar zichzelf wil trekken, maar intimiteit, generositeit, aandacht en bezieling benadrukt.

Recente en aankomende projecten van het ensemble zijn: een tour langs de Amerikaanse oostkust, lancering van het platenlabel Love Records, experimentele filmavonden met live muziek, en optredens tijden het Dogstar Festival (LA) en Klangraum (Düsseldorf). De LCollective musici die in dit concert te horen zijn, zijn Assaf Gidron, Douglas Farrand en Teodora Stepančić.

Germaine Sijstermans (Heerlen) is klarinettiste en componiste. In haar werken zijn invloeden te horen van o.a. de natuur, indeterminate/silent muziek en butoh dans. Het ruimtelijke aspect in haar composities speel een belangrijke rol vanaf de eerste ontwikkelingen, zowel in de muziek zelf als het gebruik van de uitvoeringsruimte.

Sinds 2014 organiseert Sijstermans concerten in Intro, productiehuis voor experimentele muziek in Maastricht, waar zij momenteel ook artist in residence is (met ondersteuning van Via Zuid). Zij rondt haar residentie aan het het einde van dit jaar af met een tour in Nederland en albumopnames.

Germaine Sijstermans heeft als uitvoerend musicus van hedendaagse muziek op uiteenlopende locaties opgetreden, van traditionele concertpodia tot underground locaties, in Nederland en het buitenland, van Berlijn tot São Paulo en New York.
