Op zaterdag 18 mei gaat de nieuwe editie van What the Flag?! van start bij Kunsthaus NRW in Kornelimünster, als onderdeel van de Internationale Museumdag. In een tijd waarin grenzen—zowel fysiek als mentaal— ter discussie staan, vraagt dit project hoe kunst verbinding kan creëren. Tien kunstenaars, voorgedragen door de deelnemende instellingen uit het Very Contemporary netwerk, ontwierpen een nieuwe vlag rond dit thema. Deze vlaggen worden tijdens de kick-off gepresenteerd in de tuin van het Kunsthaus en reizen daarna verder door de Euregio Maas-Rijn.

Collectie selectie: een terugblik
Naast de nieuwe vlaggen is er bij het Kunsthaus ook een presentatie van veertien vlaggen uit eerdere edities van What the Flag?!. Deze selectie uit de rijke archiefcollectie toont de kracht en diversiteit van het project sinds de start in 2016.

We nodigen iedereen van harte uit voor de feestelijke opening op zondag 18 mei. Om 12:15 uur start een Walk & Talk-rondleiding met NRW curator Elke Kania en WtF?! initiatiefnemer Wouter Huis.
What the Flag?! 2025 is onderdeel van het Reading the Region-programma, georganiseerd door het Very Contemporary netwerk: Art au Centre, Greylight Projects, Het Nieuwe Domein, IKOB, Jester, Kunsthaus NRW Kornelimünster, La Châtaigneraie, Leopold-Hoesch-Museum, Ludwig Forum Aachen, NAK Neuer Aachener Kunstverein en SCHUNCK.

On Saturday, May 18, the new edition of What the Flag?! launches at Kunsthaus NRW in Kornelimünster as part of International Museum Day. At a time when borders—both physical and mental—are increasingly questioned, this project investigates how art can foster connection. Ten artists, nominated by the participating institutions of the Very Contemporary network, each designed a new flag in response to this theme. These flags will be presented in the garden of Kunsthaus NRW during the kickoff and will then travel across the Meuse-Rhine Euregion.
