In 2025 gaat Greylight Projects samenwerken met het GTB Lab in Heerlen in de vorm van een gezamenlijk residentieprogramma. Het doel is om de wisselwerking tussen artistieke praktijk en innovatieve bouwprincipes te stimuleren. Binnen dit programma krijgen residenten de kans om te werken op het snijvlak van kunst, circulair bouwen en stedelijke transformatie. Zo ontstaat een platform waar experiment, reflectie en samenwerking centraal staan in de zoektocht naar nieuwe vormen van duurzaam samenleven.
GREEN TRANSFORMABLE BUILDING LAB is een uniek Europees laboratorium dat een systemische verschuiving in de bouwsector teweegbrengt. Een nieuwe filosofie waarin afval wordt beschouwd als een ontwerpfout.
GTB Lab ontwikkelt en realiseert concrete, duurzame, aanpasbare en innovatieve bouwsystemen en projecten waarin wetenschappelijke kennis wordt toegepast in zowel nieuwbouw als bestaande gebouwen. Daartoe wordt een integrale groene bouwmethodologie voor de 21e eeuw ontwikkeld, getest en gedemonstreerd.
Dit resulteert in een voorbeeldproject voor ‘innovatie in de bouw’ waarin wetenschappelijke inzichten en marktbehoefte samenkomen. Door zó te ontwerpen dat een circulaire waardeketen mogelijk wordt, ondergaan gebouwen een continue upgrading. Bovendien behouden materialen in gebouwen hun waarde. Deze dynamisch en flexibel ontworpen gebouwen zijn de sleutel tot een circulaire economie. “Gebouwen zijn niet langer de afvalbergen van de toekomst, maar opslagplaatsen van waardevolle bouwmaterialen” (Durmisevic, 2015).

This partnership brings together artists and designers with architects, researchers, and sustainable building experts. The aim is to foster an exchange between artistic practices and innovative building principles. Within this program, residents will have the opportunity to work at the intersection of art, circular construction, and urban transformation. It creates a platform where experimentation, reflection, and collaboration are central to exploring new forms of sustainable living.
GREEN TRANSFORMABLE BUILDING LAB is a unique European Laboratory introducing a systemic shift in the building sector. A new philosophy where waste is considered a design error.
GTB Lab develops and realises concrete, sustainable, adaptable and innovative building systems and projects in which scientific knowledge is implemented in new and existing buildings. To this end, an integral green building methodology for the 21st century is developed, tested and demonstrated. This leads to a showcase for ‘innovation in construction’ that integrates scientific insights and market demand.By designing in such a way as to enable a circular value chain, buildings receive continuous upgrading. Moreover, materials in buildings retain their value. These dynamically and flexibly designed buildings are the key to a circular economy. “Buildings are no longer the mountains of waste of the future but repositories of valuable building materials” (Durmisevic, 2015).
