(NL) Op 28 mei vond de studiopresentatie van Marcus Kaiser en Kaya Erdinç plaats ter afsluiting van hun residentieperiode. Deze dag kregen bezoekers de kans om beide installaties te zien op twee verschillende locaties: het GTB lab voor Marcus’ installatie en Greylight Projects voor Kaya’s installatie.

Marcus Kaiser – eclectric clouds

Tijdens zijn residentie in het GTB lab van maart tot mei van dit jaar ontwikkelde de kunstenaar Marcus Kaiser een nieuwe installatie die zijn jarenlange interesse in ecosystemen, architectuur en circulaire processen samenbrengt. Centraal in dit werk staat een boomvaren (Cyathea cooperi) die in de lucht hangt in het hart van het GTB Lab. De plant, afkomstig uit Kaisers eigen patiotuin in Düsseldorf, wordt in leven gehouden door een gesloten kringloopsysteem: water dat uit een bassin eronder wordt gepompt, bevloeit de varen en druppelt vervolgens terug in hetzelfde bassin, waardoor zowel de plant als de vissen die in het water leven, in leven worden gehouden. De vis en de varen vormen een op zichzelf onderhoudend ecosysteem dat elkaar voed via natuurlijke afscheidingen – een levende metafoor voor circulariteit en onderlinge afhankelijkheid.

De installatie van Kaya Erdinç beweegt zich rond het verhaal dat hij schreef tijdens zijn residentie: A Silent Sjtil. Het verhaal speelt zich af in Houthem, de plek waar hij momenteel woont. Vanuit zijn interesse in kleinschalig werken heeft hij in zijn atelier een installatie gemaakt waarin kleine projectoren het verhaal illustreren. Daarnaast zette hij zijn onderzoek naar ondertitels voort, waarmee hij al bezig was voordat hij aan zijn residentie begon. Het resultaat tot nu toe is zichtbaar in zijn installatie. Erdinç creëerde tijdens zijn residentie een context waarin hij collectief kon reflecteren op zijn praktijk en die van anderen.

(EN) On the 28th of May the Studio Presentation of Marcus Kaiser and Kaya Erdinç took place for the purpose of concluding their residency period. This day visitors had the opportunity to see both installations at two different locations: the GTB lab for Marcus’ installation and Greylight Projects for Kaya’s installation.

During his residency at the GTB from March to May this year the artist Marcus Kaiser developed a new installation that brings together his long-standing interests in ecosystems, architecture, and circular processes. Central to this work is a treefern (Cyathea cooperi), suspended in mid-air in the heart of the GTB Lab. The plant, sourced from Kaiser’s own patio garden in Düsseldorf, is kept alive by a closed-loop system: water pumped from a basin below irrigates the fern, then drips back down into the same tub, sustaining both the plant and the fish living in the water. The fish and fern formed a self-sustaining ecosystem, nourishing each other through natural secretions—a living metaphor for circularity and interdependence.

Kaya Erdinç’s installation moves around the story he wrote during his residency: A Silent Sjtil. the story takes place in Houthem, the place where he’s currently living. From his interest in working in small scale, he created an installation in his studio in which small projectors illustrate the story. In addition, he continued his research around subtitles, with which he was already engaged in before starting his residency. The outcome up to now is visible in his installation. Erdinç created a context throughout his residency in which he could collectively reflect on his practice and others.
