Samen met Brutus (Rotterdam), Drawing Centre (Diepenheim), EKWC (Oisterwijk), Het Lage Noorden (Marrum), NIAS (Amsterdam), Nieuwe Instituut (Rotterdam) en Willem Twee Studios (Den Bosch) doet Greylight Projects mee aan de Nouveau Grand Tour NL, georganiseerd door het Institut français NL.

De Nouveau Grand Tour NL is een initiatie van Institut français NL en is bedoeld als professionele springplank voor beginnende kunstenaars en heeft als doel de samenwerking tussen de Nederlandse kunstwereld en opkomende Franse kunstenaars te verbreden. Met de steun van het Nouveau Grand Tour NL-netwerk krijgen tien Franse kunstenaars, designers en curatoren die onlangs hun diploma hebben gehaald aan een kunst- en designschool, de kans om op Nederlandse bodem onderzoek te doen en een kunstproject op te zetten.

Bij Greylight Projects wil Julie Gaubert een nieuw hoofdstuk in haar onderzoek ontwikkelen: Et si les mues continuent de chanter (Vertaald: En wat als de vervellingen bleven zingen). In dit project verkent zij de ondergrondse, micro-verzetsbewegingen en uitdrukkingsvormen die buiten de gangbare kaders ontstaan. Haar werk krijgt vorm via sculpturen, geluid, video en installaties waarin verschillende soorten verhalen (persoonlijk, historisch, media, fictief) samenkomen. Zij onderzoekt hoe taal zich binnen hiërarchische systemen beweegt: hoe het dominante signalen omzeilt, infiltreert of verstoort. Julie werkt graag met kwetsbare of instabiele materialen die kunnen dienen als overgang-, resonantie-, of transformatieoppervlakten.

In Heerlen, binnen deze poreuze grensregio waar verschillende talen, autoriteiten en sociale realiteiten samenkomen, hoopt zij dit onderzoek voort te zetten. Zij zal zich daarbij richten op informele communicatienetwerken, zoals lokale clandestiene radiozenders, amateuruitzendingen en geluidsfragmenten van verstoorde frequenties of gemeenschapsstemmen. De figuur van de Limburgse piratenzender Pirate Zenders kan daarbij dienen als uitgangspunt, een populaire anekdote én een plaatsgebonden strategie om dominante structuren te omzeilen en ruimte te creëren voor emancipatie. 

Julie Gaubert studeerde in 2020 af aan de École Supérieure d’Art du Nord-Pas de Calais. In haar werk creëert ze ontregelende momenten die het dagelijks leven bevragen en op zijn kop zetten. Dit doet zij in de vorm van acties, sculpturen, installaties, video’s of geluidswerken. Tussen gevoelige beelden, poëzie en persoonlijke observaties benadert zij het politieke als een domein vrij van rechten, meningsuiting en onderzoek. Tijdens haar residentie in 2022 in de Espace Croisé in Roubaix presenteerde Julie haar solotentoonstelling Antichambre, waarin zij haar onderzoek naar hiërarchische machtsstructuren toonde. Ze maakt vormen van verzet zichtbaar en bevraagt tegelijkertijd de omstandigheden waarin ze ontstaan. Haar werk wordt gedragen door sociale en politieke betrokkenheid en stelt vragen over de politieke vormen van verzet, de plekken waar ze kunnen plaatsvinden, de banden die de groepen vormen en de manieren waarop deze stemmen gehoord kunnen worden.

At Greylight Projects, Julie Gaubert will develop a new chapter in her research: Et si les mues continuent de chanter (“And what if the sloughs kept singing”). In this project, she explores underground, micro-resistance movements and forms of expression that emerge outside conventional frameworks. Her work takes shape through sculptures, sound, video, and installations in which different kinds of narratives (personal, historical, media-based, fictional) converge. She investigates how language operates within hierarchical systems: how it bypasses, infiltrates, or disrupts dominant signals. Julie often works with fragile or unstable materials that can function as surfaces of transition, resonance, or transformation. In Heerlen, within this porous border region where multiple languages, authorities, and social realities intersect, she aims to continue this line of inquiry. She will focus on informal communication networks, such as local clandestine radio stations, amateur broadcasts, and sound fragments from disrupted frequencies or community voices. The figure of the Limburg pirate radio station Pirate Zenders may serve as a point of departure—a popular anecdote and a site-specific strategy for bypassing dominant structures and creating space for emancipation.

Julie Gaubert graduated in 2020 from the École Supérieure d’Art du Nord-Pas de Calais. In her work, she creates disorienting moments that question and overturn everyday life. She does so through actions, sculptures, installations, videos, and sound works. Through a combination of evocative imagery, poetry, and personal observations, she approaches the political as a domain shaped by rights, expression, and inquiry. During her 2022 residency at Espace Croisé in Roubaix, she presented her solo exhibition Antichambre, in which she explored hierarchical power structures. She makes forms of resistance visible while simultaneously questioning the conditions in which they arise. Her work is grounded in social and political engagement and raises questions about political forms of resistance, the spaces in which they can occur, the bonds that form groups, and the ways in which these voices can be heard.
