Bijeenkomst #12 Samplen met Zoef Mashaldina

Op woensdag 6 december wordt bijeenkomst #12 begeleid door kunstenares Zoef Mashaldina. Kom je mee doen? 

Naast dat Zoef Mashaldina zelf regelmatig deelnemer is geweest bij Atelier KARTON, heeft zij ook een geheel eigen benadering tot de omgeving die een bijzondere aanvulling is op de tot nu toe tot stand gekomen methodes. 

In haar eigen kunstenaarschap zoekt Mashaldina een bewustwording op van hoe de dingen om ons heen tot stand komen en wat we ermee kunnen doen. Zo richt zij zich voornamelijk op het digitale landschap. Informatie die we op het internet tegenkomen, is in zekere zin net als karton. Het is goedkoop, flexibel materiaal waar op een vaak onverschillige manier mee om wordt gegaan. Maar wat kan er eigenlijk allemaal mee, als je het bewust in handen neemt?

Om dit te onderzoeken zal Zoef in haar workshop tools meegeven om te leren bewust rond te dwalen in het digitale landschap. Tijdens dat digitale ronddwalen wordt materiaal verzameld om uiteindelijk zelf iets nieuws mee te maken. Dit wordt ook wel ‘samplen’ genoemd: stukjes informatie (geluiden, teksten, beelden, …) uit verschillende bronnen knippen om er uiteindelijk zelf een nieuwe samenstelling mee maken.

Tijdens haar introductie zal Mashaldina de kunstzinnig-politieke beweging “het situationisme” gebruiken als vertrekpunt. Met daaropvolgende voorbeelden van verwante kunststromingen alsook specifieke makers en denkers, zal ze een beeld schetsen over hoe zij zelf tot ‘samplen’ als een artistieke praktijk is gekomen. Maar ook hoe je dit in kan zetten om een kritische houding aan te nemen ten opzichte van de dagelijkse toestroom aan informatie, zowel in onze digitale als fysieke omgeving. De workshop zal op een laagdrempelige en speelse manier de mogelijkheid bieden om de online wereld op een nieuwe manier te gebruiken.

Meeting #12 Sampling with Zoef Mashaldina

On Wednesday, December 6, meeting #12 will be supervised by artist Zoef Mashaldina.

In addition to the fact that Zoef Mashaldina herself has been a regular participant at Atelier KARTON, she also has her own unique approach to the environment that is a special addition to the methods developed so far.

In her own artistic practice, Mashaldina seeks an awareness of how things around us come about and what we can do with them.She mainly focuses on the digital landscape.Information we encounter on the Internet is, in a sense, like cardboard.It is a cheap, flexible material that is often handled in an indifferent manner.But what can you actually do with it if you consciously take it into your hands?

To investigate this, Zoef will provide tools in her workshop to learn to wander around the digital landscape consciously. During this digital wandering, material is collected to ultimately experience something new. This is also called ‘sampling’: cutting pieces of information (sounds, texts, images, etc.) from different sources and ultimately creating a new composition yourself.

During her introduction, Mashaldina will start from the artistic-political movement “situationism”. Supported by many other examples of related artistic movements, as well as specific makers and thinkers, she will sketch a picture of how she herself came to ‘sampling’ as an artistic practice. But also how you can use this to adopt a critical attitude towards the daily influx of information, both in our digital and physical environment. The workshop will offer the opportunity to use the online world in a new way in an accessible and playful way.
