(NL) Nadat Ward Willems de aftrap in het Atelier in de Stad heeft gedaan, wordt hij afgewisseld door kunstenaar ‘Dorothy in Hell’. De nieuwe artiest in het Atelier in de stad, werkend onder de artiestennaam ‘Dorothy in Hell’, heeft afgelopen week haar werk naar onze locatie in het NS-Station in Heerlen gebracht. Onlangs is Dorothy afgestudeerd aan de afdeling Fine Arts aan het Maastricht Institute of Arts.

Binnen haar praktijk is Dorothy op zoek naar een vorm van verlossing. Het maken van werk is een manier om ruimte te creëren voor haarzelf. In deze ruimte kan ze als het ware zichzelf te boven stijgen. Ze verzameld materiaal, informatie, beelden en objecten om deze vervolgens om te vormen tot iets nieuws.

Daarnaast staat ‘transitie’ of ‘overgang’ centraal in Dorothy’s werk. Haar interesse in ‘transitie’ of ‘overgang’ komt vanuit het gegeven dat ze zelf veel bezig is met haar identiteit en hoe haar kunstenaarschap verbonden is met haar transitie.

In Heerlen wil ze starten met rondwandelen in de omgeving om materiaal van straat te halen. Ze laat zich leiden door wat ze tegenkomt en speelt met de verschillende mogelijkheden om hier werk van te maken in het Atelier in de stad.

(EN) Atelier in de stad’s new artist, known as ‘Dorothy in Hell’, brought her work to our location at the NS Station in Heerlen last week. Dorothy recently graduated from the Fine Arts department at the Maastricht Institute of Arts.

Within her practice, Dorothy is looking for a form of redemption. Making work is a way of creating space for herself. In this space, she can rise above herself. She collects material, information, images and objects and then transforms them into something new.

Central to Dorothy’s artistic practice is transition. Her interest in transition comes from the fact that she is much preoccupied with her identity and how her practice is connected to her transition.

In Heerlen, she wants to start by walking around the area to collect material from the street. She is guided by what she comes across and plays with the different possibilities to make work from this in the Atelier in the city.
