Sarah Joy Zwarts makes series of drawings, which often find their starting point in (personal) historical anecdotes. Her project Jardins coulés (2016) was realized during a working period at FLACC Genk and combines a personal history with the regional mining past. It touches upon the memory of her grandfather, who worked as a foreman at coal mine Emma but also cherished a passion for tropical plant biology.
